26.10.2011 - Samsung Diamond League: the 2012 calendar revealed!

Mark your calendars, the 2012 dates of the Samsung Diamond League  have been revealed. The season will start on the 11th of May in Doha and the MEETING AREVA will be staged in the Stade de France on the 6th of July.

No doubt that only 3 weeks before the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, the Parisian event will stand as a big rehearsal. more

08.07.2011 - Awaiting Usain...

Despite some rather alarmist weather forecasts, it was an overcast sky but not a drop of rain that greeted the 2011 edition of the Meeting Areva, the eighth stage of the Samsung Diamond League, in Paris’ Stade de France.

Organised a week earlier than last year, this athletics evening drew the maximum number of spectators in a stadium that can accommodate up to 75,000 seats in athletics configuration, a fact that makes it the largest arena of the 14 which host the Samsung Diamond League meetings. more

08.07.2011 - Jaroslav Baba keeps the stadium in suspense

Achieving his season’s best with a jump of 2m32, the Czech Jaroslav Baba stood out in a high jump competition which lasted over two hours and certainly lived up to expectations, thrilling the crowd in the Stade de France.

Ultimately the top two jumpers could only be separated by the number of attempts they required to clear the height and so the Russian Aleksey Dimitrik took second with a jump of the same height, while third place went to his compatriot Ivan Ukhov (2m30). more

08.07.2011 - Usain Bolt crowns the event

We were expecting it and he did it! Despite some strong competition from Frenchman Christophe Lemaître, 2nd in 20s21, the rocket Usain Bolt stood out in a highly awaited men’s 200m with a time of 20s03 achieved in a negative wind of 6m per second.

The Jamaican, for whom it’s only the 2nd 200m this season, confirmed his position as leader of the Samsung Diamond League standing. The American Darvis Patton scored 3rd in this final race of the evening. more

08.07.2011 - Irving Saladino takes off

In the last but one competition to finish, it’s the Panamanian Irving Saladino, who jumped the furthest (8m40) on his 5th attempt. He took victory ahead of the two British jumpers: Chris Tomlinson, who beat his national record with a jump of 8m35, and Greg Rutherford, whose jump measured 8m27.

The South-African Godfrey Mokoena took 4th place but still holds the lead in the Samsung Diamond League standing more

08.07.2011 - Amine Laalou beats the favourites

The men’s 1,500m has been won by the Moroccan Amine Laalou with a time of 3mn32s15. He beat the leader of the Samsung Diamond League, the Kenyan Asbel Kiprop, who finished in 3mn33s11.

It was the American Bernard Lagat who completed the podium with a time of 3mn33s11, his season’s best. more

08.07.2011 - Robert Harting first go

All it took was one throw, of 67m32, for the German Robert Harting to win the men’s discus. Achieved on his first attempt, this performance by the best thrower of the season was the only one to be measured.

The Pole Piotr Malachowski finishes second with a throw of 67m26. He’s followed by the Estonian, Gerd Kanter, first in the Samsung Diamond League ranking, credited with a throw of 67m24 on his fifth attempt. more

08.07.2011 - Suspense all the way for Robles

The Cuban world champion Dayron Robles had to wait for the photo-finish before he was awarded victory in the 110m hurdles in 13s09. In a very high level race, the American David Oliver, scored a season’s best and is credited with the same time but retains the lead in the Samsung Diamond League standing.

It’s Jamaican Dwight Thomas who takes third with a time of 13s18. more

08.07.2011 - Meseret Defar queen of the endurance

The Ethiopian takes a win in the longest race of all at the Meeting Areva, the women’s 5,000m, scoring an excellent time of 14mn29s52, the best of the year over the distance, which assures her of first place in the Samsung Diamond League.

The fastest athletes over the distance were racing at the Stade de France. Ethiopian Sentayehu Ejigu finishes in 14mn35s13 whilst Mercy Cherono of Kenya, takes third place in the 14mn35s13. more
